Thanks to a generous gift from the family of FeederWatch participant John Waud, in honor of his late wife Doris Waud, who was a long-time public school teacher, and was actively involved in the creation of Classroom FeederWatch at the Cornell Lab. Terra Nova was chosen among 50 schools for this upcoming year's Project FeederWatch. Our participation fee was covered by this gift. Over the last two weeks, Alex and Les led 12 of our students on an amazing out-of-the-classroom experience to the Apostle Islands. This is our fourth year working with Lake Superior Tall Ships and Captain Gordon Ringberg. Students learn how to sail, navigate, explore individual Apostle Islands, and learn about the geography and history of the region. We had an incredible time and look forward to more adventures on Lake Superior next year. #tallships2024 #terranovamn #outoftheclassroomintotheworld #experientiallearning
It's the Thursday of National Pollinator Week. Here are some fun facts about the importance of pollinators who are often keystone species, meaning that they are critical to an ecosystem. The work of pollinators ensures full harvests of crops and contributes to healthy plants everywhere. An estimated 1/3 of all foods and beverages are delivered by pollinators. In the U.S., pollination produces nearly $20 billion worth of products annually.
